Xmas festivities begin ....
It seems the Pope has churned out another "good little earner"..
The Infancy Narratives ...
"Benedict puts the record straight in his third book on the life of Christ, Jesus of Nazareth: The Infancy Narratives, which was released on Tuesday and looks destined for the best seller lists with an initial print run of one million."
"In the gospels there is no mention of animals," the pope states. He says references to the ox and the donkey in other parts of the Bible may have inspired Christians to include them in their nativity scenes."
Now this next bit really made me laugh out loud ...
"Showing his scholarly approach to the Bible," ...
no ..wait for it ... wait for it...
"Benedict also analyses the moment angels descended to tell shepherds the son of God was lying in a manger nearby. In a blow to fans of the carol Hark the Herald Angels Sing, Benedict writes: "According to the evangelist, the angels 'said' this. But Christianity has always understood that the speech of angels is actually song, in which all the glory of the great joy that they proclaim becomes tangibly present."
and then his "scholarship?" gets even more ... er ... um ... "scholarly?".
"One aspect of the nativity story that Benedict states is absolutely true is the virgin birth of Jesus."
So ,as it occurs to me that at this time of year we of the real world may encounter more of this lunacy than usual I thought I'd post this....
Many of you will already be aware of much of it ...but here it is any way...
Things the Bible does not mention re the Nativity
1/ Mary riding on a donkey to Bethlehem.
2/ A stable ,barn or cave ,(it does say there was no room at the inn, but nothing more).
3/ Any Inn-keeper.
4/ Animals. No ox , no ass and no sheep. But there was a manger.
5/ Three kings , it does talk of wise men but gives no names or numbers, but does mention 3 gifts.
6/ Any angels present at the birth.
Oh ...and the whole Virgin birth thing ?
This link gives a pretty comprehensive explanation ...
unless of course you are an octogenarian German ,with a liking for shiny silk frocks , red shoes and delusions of grandeur.
